So, I finally am able to connect to the ECU on my SR4 but of course the ECU is PIN locked.  As I understand it, I can erase the ECU and upload a new (non-protected) map.  Does anyone happen to have a base map for a stock Gen1 1300 engine?

It's a long shot but figured I would ask...

Thanks,

John

Why do you want to modify the ECU mapping?  Is there an issue with the Mapping done by Radical? I would recommend reaching out to Dan Phillips (Forum member) at RLM engines, or George Dean at George Dean Racing Engines.

does it have an MBE ecu? i was thinking about the ecu map locks on the MBE ecus. they are only 4 digit numerical codes right? that means there's only 10k possible lock combinations. My understanding is that there isn't anything to prevent a brute force attack. AKA you can just keep guessing until it unlocks. Might not be too hard to write a script or even a damn screen macro to do that.

think that software might actually do it.

Hi Charley.  The car runs fine.  I'm simply trying to get into the ECU so I can format the CAN bus output for an AIM dash.

SBD (who distributes the MBE stuff) says they "can't" unlock the ECU since it's so old, they just want me to buy a new ECU.  MBE can do it but I'd have to take the ECU out, ship it to the UK and then wait for the return.  Radical gave their ok for it to be unlocked so I wish someone (MBE) would just send me the code.

Was thinking the same thing...  What's funny is that I can connect and see live engine readings using EasiMap 6 but I can't find a PIN code entry option. In EasiMap 5 I can see the PIN code entry and it appears I connect the ECU but don't see live engine readings.  Gotta figure that out first before I try the brute force hack.

FYI in case it's helpful for others...

The MBE 992 ECU that's in the Radical SR4 is hard locked so there is no PIN.  I brute forced 0000 - 99999 (all four and five digit combinations) a few times with no luck. I talked to MBE yesterday and they confirmed that it is hard locked.  It looks like it'll cost me about 200 GBP plus shipping to have them unlock it so that I can setup the CAN bus for an AIM dash.

I'm going to see if there are any MBE tuners in the mid-Atlantic -- it might make sense just to upgrade to the newer ECU (9A4) which is pin compatible.  The problem is then I don't have a good map until the car is tuned.

Ugh.

While this might be shooting a gnat with a cannon, I recently converted my 07 SR8 to a MoTeC M150 ECU. I re-did all the maps, timing tables, shifter parameters, etc. etc.

A big job, expensive, and time-consuming.

OTOH, I now have complete control of the entire car. 🙂 I can help if that sort of thing is of interest to you. I'm in central Florida.

Hi everyone.  Going to bump this...

I found that I have a spare, unlocked MBE 992B ecu in the box of spares that I got with the car.  I've connected to the ECU this evening using the MBE Easimap 6 software and can confirm that I have full access.  Alas, there is no map on the ECU currently and I can't copy the map from the locked MBE ECU that's in my car now.

So, before I spend some coin to get a base map from MBE (well, SBD, their distributor), I figured I'd check to see if anyone here has a map for a 1300 that they can share.

Thanks!

Have you contacted Spring Mountain yet.  I would think they could do this for you.

Thought I would update this.  Talked to Spring Mountain last month.  They do not have any 992 ECU stuff/info left, so they can't help.

Also talked to MBE (the manufacturer).  No luck there, they really aren't interested in helping uplock it.  A few years ago, others paid 150 - 200 GBP to have them unlock them but they're not doing it anymore.

I ended up getting a 9A4 with a new map directly from SBD Motorsports -- the distributor for the MBE ECUs.  It plugged right in and everything seems to run fine in the garage.  Can't drive it yet.

So, if someone has an older car with an original Radical/MBE ECU, if you want to do engine upgrades, get CANbus output, etc., you're basically out of luck and will need to get a new one.
