There is an easy way to find out what size the fuel tank is in your SR3, SR5, or SR8.  There were 4 fuel tank that were available:  54L (14 gallon) aluminum tank, 54L (14 gallon) fuel cell, 77L (20 gallon) Aluminum tank, and 77L (20 gallon) fuel cell.  If you look at the attached pictures of cars with their seats removed, you can see that the 77L tank come up nearly to the top of the back of the seat, and the 54L tanks are about 6" below the level of the back of the seat.  So to check what tank size your car has you can simply look behind the seats to tell.  Unfortunately it is a little more difficult to determine if you have a fuel cell.  the easiest way to tell is to find where the fuel fill line goes through the firewall and try and move it.  If you get some movement you have a fuel cell.

Thanks guys. Not ever having seen the 54L tank -- I figured everybody had the same tank.

Are cars with the aluminum tank allowed to race in the USA ? I assume they don't have an ATL "plate" with an expiry date?

Fuel cells are required in all U.S. racing series that I am aware of.  Some groupies have not informed this rule for Radicals in the past, but I understand the rules are being consistently unforced now.

The only time I have seen ATL expiration plates on cars that had their fuel cells replaced at least once.

OK thanks... So on a car that would be older than 5 years, if it's not displaying a fuel cell expiration plate, how would they check if it's been extended or replaced? Is it enforced to the point that you have to show a proof of renewal?

I’m not sure how each organization handles it.  But if the car is more than 5 years old documentation would be required.
