Gentleman , New to this site but thought would tap into the experts, recently bought a 2022 SR3XX 1340, which is heavier than my 2013, appears to have heavier body panels, possible gain with silencer package,  our race weight class is set at 1565lbs, I weight 195lbs, even with no fuel was 45-50 lbs over, so gave car a bit of a diet with light weight battery and removed headlights. Ideas?  or should I just start eating more rabbit food?

Thanks

Hi Dave.  Welcome to the Registry and congratulations on your new car.  Where are you located?  I don’t have a good answer to your question, but I know that several of the dealers have modified cars to meet minimum weight.  I would reach out to them.  Also, the new XXR wheels are advertised as being lighter, so that may be a way to save a few pounds.

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com ... might be wishful thinking Charley.  I was talking to someone today who told me the total difference (yes - all 4 wheels) was around 500 grams.... or 1/4 pound...

Anyone know if that's right or have other numbers to compare?

Charley, I am located in BC, Canada, our home track is Area 27.  Always good to shed rotating mass but wheel difference appears minimum. I did add the silencer package to my car, thinking removing the secondary muffler as a weight loss, but we do have required max dBs , and not sure if removal would effect overall horsepower / performance. I see the new XXRs have a carbon fibre splitter and rear diffuser as an option, may aid to weight loss but will be a few bucks.

Others have mentioned this issue of heavier body panels. I've been told that Radical no longer makes their own panels due to persistent complaints about cracking, etc. Wonder if the sub-contractor has added mass to the panels to increase durability?

Panels are noticeably thicker, compared to pre XX SR3s, great for durability, but does bring some extra weight to the package.  Have to think as more newer cars join the field easy fix is going to be to bump up required weight class. Assume Radical has set the min weight class, we use 1565lbs is that the same in other regions?

Just got off the line with our local Radical Dealers, looks like steak dinner tonight as he mentioned Radical is bumping up weight class to 1588lbs, good news is should be able to meet that, looks no excuses now.

Ah yes. We Americans and our antiquated methods of weights and measures. It's a bump from 710 to 720 kgs. 🙂

Hey Dave, I am out at mission raceway numerous times a year. I hope to get to Area 27 one day as its been difficult to get up there with the restrictions of being on track with the road cars.

Josh, you should make your way to Area 27 on a Radical  Race weekend they do allow non members to run in those events ( it may be restricted to only 3 times per year) We are now getting classes of 20 plus cars. For info first couple races are April 2 and May 20th

I would love to do that, before getting myself into a race format I would like some seat time on the track to get to know it. I would proably send myself or others (or both) off the track if I just showed up and went for it.
