Hi ,has anyone had experience running Red Line shock proof in their GDU.?

I have used this oil in off road and Porsche track racing with amazing results for 20 years.

@slowcar, I haven’t tried that, but I have been told by two senior people at Radical that they have tested many oils and nothing comes close to the performance of the Neo RHD.

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com

Thanks Charley,

It would be interesting to see test results of what oils they tested?

love to hear if any one has used Red Line Oils in their GDU?

Good price on Engine oil.  8x4L for $454.20 ($55.77 per 4L):

MOTUL 300V 15W50

Newparts also has the MOTUL 90PA gear oil for $15.95 per 2L.

(For fitment use 1996 Acura TL 2.5L gas)

And MOTUL 660 brake fluid for $17.95

I purchased all of this and it arrived two days later via UPS.

Reading the TB on the Radical Website..

https://zmfqrnenekgkedngmqke.supabase.co/storage/v1/object/public/media/radical/TB2022.2_-_Engine_Oil_-_2022_X_Spec_Engine.pdf

appears this is the oil to get?

Motul 300v Factory Line 15w60 100% Syn. Liter

Still using MOTUL 90PA gear oil  for GDU?

I always have.  Many also run Neo Sythetics 75w90 which might be better?  IDK.  I think more important is to ensure the exact right amount is in your GDU.  Too much and it will spray out of the breather vent, and too little it will overheat.  I use a 200cc fluid syringe to push oil into the lower GDU cooler hose until it flows out of the upper GDU return hose, and then I fill the GDU with a liter or until it reaches the fill level bung.

I was told by Spring Mountain that either Motul 300V 15W50 or 15W60 can be used for RPE 1340 and 1500 engines that are not X input shaft/bearing updated, but 300V 15W60 must be used for those that are X-updated.

…Pity Motul don’t supply the 15W60 in Australia….

Would love to know the reasoning behind 300V "MUST BE USED FOR X UPDATED ENGINES"...... And hear from someone who can back that statement up.  Not Radical or Suzuki specific, but we build around a dozen high performance Porsche engines a year, so I am intersted in why one MUST use THAT specific oil.

Interested in learning, not being confrontational....

But, If you are a Radical engine builder, and subscribe to that statement, please explain.

@jeff-alton ... agreed - it would be great to hear what the exact issue is they are trying to solve with this change in viscosity 'requirement'...  I understand a little about lubrication, etc and I can't really see why this makes sense. (run a higher hot viscosity level, and then also run the engine hotter...)

@rjbender Rod, yes. My guess is marketing hype.  That said, we do have oils we prefer and warranty our engines with.  However, would love an explanation.

Interested in what sort of rod bearing and main bearing clearances they are speccing such that this is the only product they think will make the engine survice until TBO.

Again, my interest is not confrontational at all, more looking to learn.

Cheers

@jeff-alton ... Hi again Jeff,

Dan Phillips at RLM is the likely person who might know.. but as I understand it, the new oil specification is focused on the new "-X" changes to the journal/bearing arrangement on the gearbox output shaft.  This was/is apparently the weakest link in the engine and is the main reason that the engines are specced to run to 'only' 40 hours 'ignition on' time.  It's the part that most often causes the engine to fail from what I understand. (not in every case of course, so peoples individual experience may differ - that's the beauty of listening to the engine builders who see tens/hundreds of these things).

So from my limited understanding it seems there is something about this new oil spec that's trying to give this particular bearing increased protection under certain conditions (cold start, cold 'load' and 'hot' target temperatures)

@rjbender Thanks again for your reply.  Will reach out to Dan (thanks for that info) before I am starting to rebuild mine!
