SR3 XX Weight?
Hello,
I have a SR3 XX delivered new in Dec 2023. I have been club racing it and am consistently 100lbs over the min weight, I am 200 lbs.
I finally got a set of scales and weigh it with all fuel pumped out but the car did have oil and water. The car weighs 1424 which seems a bit heavy as the manual says 1370 dry. The car does have a halo which weighs something and I am not sure if that is included in what the manual states.
Is 1424 heavy compared to others?

I intended to post this in General Discussion, not new member intros. If there is a way to route this post there, I would appreciate it.
Thank you
@fsts2k . I have both cars here, an 2017 RSX and a 2023 XX. The XX is way heavier... and the cars are almost identically specifications. I haven't measured each individual component to see where the extra weight is.. but I think it's around 30kg's and I suspect most is in the bodywork. Both of my cars do not have the 'halo'. The XX has billet uprights (probably heavier) and a Life PDU (rather than some XX's that were delivered with the AiM PDM) and the XX had none of that. Otherwise they are essentially identical. I think Radical 'farmed out' making their bodywork for a period while the concentrated on lifting production to a higher number of cars from their factory. This seems to make some sense as they could concentrate their resources on their core business. It was rumoured that the bodywork made at the other factory (using the original/same moulds) was made thicker/heavier... and there's really clear evidence of this on my two cars...
I plan on weighing all the bodywork pieces individually next time I have them all off.... then I will know for sure.
In the meantime the new XX is about 0.3-0.5 seconds slower in a ~53 second lap at my local track.... the RSX was quicker. The XX feels more stable under maximum braking and I suspect this is more to do with the stiffer uprights than the weight.
I'd be interested to hear other XX owners experience.....

Thank you Rod, interesting that your XX is heavier. Have you weighed your XX? Wondering how close it might be to my car's weight.
I am going to consider pulling the Halo bars and putting the non-halo bars on to see if that will get the weight down. I am less excited about new body work yet but that might be needed.
@fsts2k - Hi Again, Yes... I have measured it quite a lot as I do my own 'flat patch' set-up. When the car was delivered it was also measured then. The car had almost zero fuel in it, as it had just been completely pumped out... but was otherwise complete with C52 Hankooks (the Avons I sometime use are a fair bit lighter).
It weighed 640.5 kg's (1412 pounds). This is around 25kg's heavier than my 2015 RSX, and 35kg's heavier than a friends 2012 RS.
Compared to my RSX, the differences are the XX has a Life PDU and billet uprights... otherwise essentially identical.
As I mentioned in my first reply I suspect the difference is in the bodywork (it almost can't be in much else - most of the parts are mechanically completely interchangeable).
Later this week I'm going to where I keep the RSX bodywork to weigh it as a comparison. I weighed the front and rear bodywork sections off the XX on the weekend. Weights below;
XX Rear Engine Cover - 10.4kg
XX Front Nose Section - 16.1kg
It would be great if you and others could share the equivalent weights, and I will also post the RSX equivalent weights when I get a chance.
Thank you Rod, I will try to weigh some of my body panels this week. I did talk to my dealer who state that the billet uprights are a fair amount heavier. Your car at 1412 vs. mine at 1424 seems to check out as mine has a halo (I also have Hankooks on it). The XX's do seem to be quite a bit heavier than other versions.
I was able to finally get into my car again this year after three two days of maintenance (I am slow)... was nice to spend time behind the wheel vs wrenching.
This is a really interesting discussion as I am looking to buy one of these models soon. Some ex-XX owners and other people say that the setup window for an XX is much narrower and it can be unpredictable - any thoughts? Some people have advised against buying one altogether as they think Radical got things fundamentally wrong with the aero "upgrades". Again, any feedback appreciated.
Hi Julian, I wouldn't rush to buy another one... ... although as far as I'm aware the only difference from an 'aero' perspective between the XX and say an RSX is the rear wing end plates and the addition of a second pair of front canards (which can be removed) ... all other parts are interchangeable as far as I understand...
It's the weight issue that mine suffers from....
@rjbender Thanks Rod - so if you didn't have a Radical at all right now and couldn't afford an XXR would you go for an RSX or an XX overall?
@jpvintage62 ... I've got an RSX and an XX and much prefer the RSX - it's lighter and simpler without the PDM/PDU. My XX was one of the last made and also came with the higher steering position standard. I'm not sure what other earlier XX owners have done, but I know many struggled seeing the dashboard (including shift lights) in the wheel with it being to low. I think Radical may have given early owners AiM shift light modules to sit on the top of the cockpit opening more in their eyeline as a 'fix'...? but that's another potential reason I would buy an RSX
