Hi all, I am looking to upgrade from my Clubsport and was thinking of a SR1 however I have seen a SR4 for sale, apart from the engine are there any other major differences, do they share the same chassis/bodywork?

Many thanks

Frank

Hi Frank (@frank), Yes the SR4 and the SR1 have a lot of similarities and some key differences.  THe SR4 was introduced in January 2004 and it could be ordered with any engine that Radical offered (1300, 1340, 1500, 1585).  They could also be ordered with several different shock absorbers (Protec, AVO, or Intrax single or triple adjustable).  They were also available with a rear diffuser to improve downforce.  The early cars came with Dyna ECU's and then went to MBE 992 ECU's and then January 2010 (when the K8 engines were introduced) they switched to Life ECUs (Chassis 66 and beyond).  The SR4 was built through July 2016 but most of the cars from February 2010 through the end of production went to southern Italy.

At that time the SR4 was causing a bit of confusion to customers because the car was smaller than an SR3 but had a higher model number and could be ordered with most of the best components (shocks and engines) as the SR3.

In January 2012 Radical decided to clarify the product line up and created a low cost Novice race series.  They changed the name of the SR4 to the SR1 and created the SR1 Race series.  The first generation SR1 was the same as the SR4 except now it could only be ordered with a detuned 1340 engine with a Life ECU, only AVO shocks were offered, and the downforce was reduced by not offering the rear diffuser.  In January 2017 a second generation SR1 was released which basically had a new body.  In April 2023 the third generation SR1 was released and is now called the XXR.  It has a new body and a 5th generation 1340 engine.

I hope this helps 🙂
