Changing GDU fluid
I think I already know the answer to this question, just hoping I'm wrong. We're supposed to change the GPU fluid and engine oil and filter every 6 hours. How do you drain the fluid out of the GDU?
I've looked through both the mechanics and owners manual and they tell you how to fill but not drain. Ran my fingers around it and below it and didn't find a drain plug. It looks like you need to remove the bolts on the side of the GDU and drain the fluid like you were changing ratios? That means cleaning off all the sealant and reapplying sealant and then finally refilling. Then hoping you don't have a leak.
Anyone drill and tap one? Maybe suck the fluid out and refill?
Does everyone strictly follow the 6hr rule? I have a lot of time just driving around trying to figure out the car, taping ducts for correct temps etc. When we did have the right temps we're not racing so only pulling 9-9.5K rpm.
Thanks,
I changed my oil and GDU fluid between 6 and 10 hours. I always had an engine oil analysis done at every change and it always said the oil had more life to it. But, I wouldn't go over 10 hours.
The easiest way I found to change the GDU oil is to remove the lower line that goes from the low point in the GDU to the pump. It has a hose clamp and comes off and on easily.
Here is a picture of the hose I am talking about. It is on the bottom of the GDU on the right hand side.

Does anyone know what the safety wire that goes through the GDU drain bolt attaches to? I forgot to take a picture.
There's a hole in the side of the case for it.
Thanks!
Although I just looked and mine doesn't have that hole. I attached it to the bar below for now.
