Is it possible to send the configuration for our aim systems?

The system in my car has a few errors on startup and doesn't see any of the tracks we go to.  It seems to be just recording everything as one big lap.  I'm getting a data cable for it tomorrow and will be able to see more then.

Instead of trying to fix the current configuration I thought it would be easier/quicker to just import the configuration from someone that has a working config.  I don't have any brake, steering or additional sensors, just the base configuration.  I do have the older box style camera that is integrated.  Not sure if that's standard on all the cars.

First, what type of AIM system is it? MXL Strada, MXL2, ......... ?

GPS or optical lap sensor?

It's either a Pista or Strada.  Car is a 2014.  AIM thought it should be a Strada.  There's a GPS sensor attached to the system.

@trakmnky, Your car likely has a Pista dash.  It sounds like you haven't loaded the tracks into your camera.  You need to use GPS Manager to add the tracks that you go to.  Also you need to hook up your lap top to the dash and configure the sensors that you are going to be using.  For example you need to tell the system to look for brake pressure and give it a target range.  The same is required for the throttle.  Then to get the gear indicator to show up you need to set up the system to calculate what gear the car is in.  The instructions are in the on line Aim manual.

Also when you say you have the "old style camera do you mean the small box or the bigger original gray one?  If it is the original style camera you may want to consider upgrading to the new cameras because they are a big improvement.

I will email you my configuration file from my car, but I don't know if it will be helpful (I tried uploading it to this post but couldnt)?  But you will still need to add your tracks using GPS manager.

Hopfully Matt @trailbrake will add to the conversation.  He knows everything there is to know about Aim Systems.

I would suggest receiving your config before overwriting it. That will save you a lot of time if you have any sensors so you don't have to figure which they are any any calibration info.

As to the long laps, if you have a GPS, you may just not have the tracks loaded. If you go in the data and try to do a GPS Lap Insert, do you get lap times? If so, then it just needs start/finish loaded.

Feel free to email or call me if you need help. My email is matt@trailbrake.net and my cell is 603-674-3250 (I'm in NH, so it's EST).

Thanks for the information.  I bought a cable today and will be working on this tomorrow.  We'll see how it goes.

Matt, it sounds like you are well aware of issues with AIM dashes.  I have a Strada that lumps all of my runs together as one lap.  It was working fine last year until I took the car apart over the winter and unplugged the optical sensor from the dash.

We ran one weekend and I thought I had put it back in the wrong orientation but feel like it was right this past weekend.  Since this is an optical sensor and not a GPS I can't seem to find any reference on how to resolve the issue.  Do you have any idea?

Thanks,

Jim Lee

What dash do you have? Strada dashes do not log, so I assume you have the Strada Logging module with the SD card?

I would start with moving the beacon by the sensor to see if it's triggering. In practice, I would get a GPS as it's a much better system, better data, and you don't have to deal with putting the beacon out and forgetting it at the track.

Thanks Matt.  We haven't had to put a beacon out, the system just picked the SF itself somehow before.
Last year we didn't do anything and it worked great.  But there was an older Radical running.  I'll check to see if he happened to have a beacon at the track last year and doesn't this year.

I'll purchase a GPS transmitter and that will fix the issue. Since it worked well last year I thought I had something that was going to work again this year.

Thanks,

Jim Lee
