Would anyone know the correct wiring for the alternator? I recently discovered someone had put spade clips directly onto the alternator and sealed them up (see pics).

I've got the proper plug and had the regulator replaced, so was just wanting to double check which wires go where. The wiring diagram on the Registry seems to be for the RX (three wires in the loom and different colours), rather than the LM.

There are two wires in the loom:

Label - 'EX', Colour- Brown, Voltage- 8.5V

Label - '+', Colour - Green, Voltage - 12V

The alternator has 3 pins:

L - Light
IG - Live with key on
P - Tacho

It seems pretty obvious that the 12V wire goes to the IG terminal, however where does the other one go, if it's used at all?

The Light is probably a warning light connection that would come on when the alternator should be making amperage but isn't. And the Tacho wire is what it sounds like, it allows you to measure the alternator's RPM. The alternator will work with just the IG connected to 12v, and the warning light and Tacho connections are for diagnostics, and/or advanced controls if the ECU is actively monitoring battery voltage and control of the alternator.

The question is what does the Radical loom/ECU itself support, and for that we'd need the detailed schematic from Radical. If anybody can find that, Charley can!

Hi John, thanks for your reply.Yes, that's my understanding too. I'll connect the IG terminal to the '+' 12V wire for now, until new information shows what the other wire is for.
