Hello-

I'm looking for a small trailer for my RXC Spyder. Found an aluminum 14ft tilt, single axle. The bed is 14'2". I was going to use long race ramps to get a lower angle. The car is raised for street use with about 3.25 inches clearance at the front splitter. The RXC is about 13.9 feet total length with 8.3 ft wheelbase. This should work right? Only issue may be having enough weight in the front to tilt it back down when loaded? Or could just load rear first. Going to use a winch.

Thoughts?

I have an 18' double axle tilt trailer with a winch and although I haven't loaded my SR10 on it yet (I will in a couple of weeks) I have loaded a mid-engine car on it.  I need to pull the car pretty far forward until it tilts back down.  I'm thinking that I'm going to need to load the Radical rear first because of weight distribution.  I also think the wing would push more weight to the rear due to the downforce if it was loaded front first.

@darrahc

thanks Clark. You somewhat validate my concern. If I load front first, it probably won't tilt back down which would be a major pain. Idea to add some weight to the front of the trailer but then when empty it wouldn't stay tilted down. May be best to get a non tilt, however I could just lock it in place and load. 😎

@bill-snead, I don't know if you saw this older post but one of the sketches in it is helpful when deciding on what trailer size to go with.

https://radicalsportscarregistry.com/radicalforum/towing-trailers-truck-discussion/trailer-size-requirements/

In an SR3 the center of gravity should be put just in front of the venter of the dual wheels on the trailer to give you enough tongue weight.  This means that with an SR3 there is roughly 9'of the car that is in front of the center of the tow vehicle wheels.  Your RXC is a bigger car so I don't know if that would be larger for your car or not, but it will likely be at least 9'.

You also mentioned that you are considering using a single axle trailer for your car and I would strongly recommend against that.  Trailer tires are very poorly made and flat tires are more common than you would think.  If you got a flat tire on a single axle trailer you might have a really bad day.  In my opinion it isn't worth the risk.

As you mentioned earlier I don't know how much the aerodynamics will affect trailering with an open trailer.  I would think that there would be a lot of turbulence so it may not be a big issue, but under certain conditions it may be?
