Hi friends,

at the moment in my SR3 No.74 there is the original Radical Dash and a PiSystem (now Cosworth) mounted.

My car is running with a MBE ECU without FI so i guess the only signal i can get from the ECU is the Revs. Everything else i have to receive with analogue channels.

I would like to receive Oilpressure, Oiltemperature, Watertemperature and Revs. I have a AIM system here with GS-Dash, evo4s, Smartycam HD GP etc. which i would like to build into the car instead of the PiSystem.

My idea is to use the signals which go to the original Radical Dash. But i cannot find any information about the wiring of the connector. Do you think it is possible that way? Does anybody have the nesseccary information about the wiring of the dash connector? If this is not possible, can i use the wiring loom of the PiSystem?

BTW AIM Germany recommended me to put their sensors in the car, that would be the easiest way. That would be the last resort for me! Maybe i am a bit stubborn with this 😉

Thank you in advance!

Markus

Markus, in theory what you want to do should work fine. I know how you feel, my 2007 SR8 was similar in that I had two sensors for everything: one for the ECU and one for the AiM dash. It was a mess!

I have some old pinouts -- maybe it will be what you need. I'll have to search for it.  🙁

Markus,

I found two files that might be useful for you. One is an old word document about the SR8 wiring loom, which might have some information about the dash connector, and the other is Radical to AIM adapter cable, in pdf file format. If you've an email address, I'll send them to you.

Markus, here are a few images that might help.  I highlighted the wiring runs from the dash connector and made a listing of what each pin in the plug goes to.  This is from the wiring for the MBE / Fuel Injected cars, but it is quite possible that this part of the wiring diagram is unchanged from your car.

Hi Charley,

thank you very much for your help, i found your original wiring diagram already but your color highlights make it much easier for me, i really appreciate your effort.

Cheers

Markus

P.S. i was in contact with James Scott from Radical regarding my problem. He recommended to change the temperature and pressure sensors to AIM sensors because the sensors connected to the dash are only single wired sensors which are much less accurate than the AIM sensors. So i guess i will change the 3 sensors and try only to read the REVs and the Gear from the Dash Connector.

You can’t get a better source for Radical information than James!

The PiSystem is now taken out of the car. Now the real fun can begin.

Wow, is that the full harness for the car?  It looks like more than the Pi harness.

This is only the wiring harness of the PiSystem.

Here a short update for you guys:

To be honest the installation of the new sensors was much easier than taking out the old wiring harness oft the PiSystem. I installed 2 new temperature sensors for water and oil, a new oil pressure sensor, one cable for the gears and one cable for the revs.

I was able to test the system today and "tada" everything works, except the gear sensor is not yet configured. I am really happy with the result so far.

Now i am 3D printing a holder for the GS-Dash so i can have it directly mounted to the steering wheel. I will add some pictures tomorrow.

Here a picture of the GS-Dash holder in the making:

If somebody wants to use the same setup I can share the stl file.

Hi Charley,

all the wiring is done, all sensors are working except the gear sensor, there i still have to tinker around a little bit.

Here some picture as promised:

Where did you grab the rpm signal? Did you tap into pins 2 and 15 of the white plastic plug?
