Fuel line leak
I discovered a strange problem today. The two fuel lines going to the fuel rail are leaking from the tubing. Bleeding through the metal mesh. My fuel light was on and I knew I had almost a full tank. The pressure wouldn't build because the lines are bleeding. The two lines are original radical, they have a tag. I run the 100 unleaded supplied at the track.
My FFR cobra race car is 20 years old with original AN lines and braided hose that I built myself. No problems, 20 yrs later.
Anyone have this problem?
@tmpoquette It is actually quite common for AN rubber fuel lines to fail. Modern fuels will eat up rubber-based hose, especially ordinary AN hose. I wrote an article for Chevy Maxx magazine about this in 2010. 🙂 Motor Trend ran this article in 2011, without any attribution. Grumble, but I digress.

I can't answer your question about your Cobra, but flexible fuel lines should be made of nylon or PTFE (I only use Goodridge 910 hose).

I'll switch to those PTFE type lines. Thanks for the info.
My cobra runs on 110 leaded, maybe the fuel is less corrosive than the unleaded 100.
Great info. I wonder whether the stainless braided hose is necessary for fuel and oil lines? My other race cars use the aramid braided lightweight hose.
@davidf I don't ever use SS braided hose. Only Aramid, and I use it for oil hose as well.
