Hey Folks,

Sharing some learnings here: My 1500cc SR3 had fuel delivery problems from a clogged fuel filter and the screens in the injectors. It's not clear if the cause was from my car sitting for years or from a new fuel cell, but the mesh screen Edelbrock filter let enough stuff by that the injectors were effected and they had to be cleaned.

In any case, Kinsler fuel injection recommended a finer filter. I tried it and it worked. Passing along.

G'day Larry,

Thanks for thinking to share that with us all.

I'm wondering if you could tell us what you were experiencing as 'symptoms' of this issue.  Maybe rough idle, rough running...etc??

@rjbender The car would not accelerate past 5000 rpm. The devil was that in the pits, the car felt fine, it revved up, and felt fine idling around the access roads. Once I got on the track, the engine felt soft at first and then got progressively worse until it would barely rev. The gear didn't matter.

Checked spark, changed the plugs. Then when I got home, I removed the fuel filter and it was about half clogged, that is the metal mesh screen. Then later, we found that the screens on the injectors were also full of debris.

Seems like I’m having the same issue with my SR8. It’s fine in the pit and on the track for the most part. Going down the straight at WOT my low fuel pressure light flickers on. Then once in a while it dies in turn 1, I pull over, shut it down and it runs fine once I restart it. No issues anywhere else. Temps and pressures fine, only happens wide open.

First thing I plan to do is replace the filter. Any thoughts about other things to check?

Scott -- how old is your car? It might be the fuel pump can't keep up.

Hi John, mine is a 2012. I noticed that you have had one or two also. Similar issues, how did you resolve them?

Thanks,

Scott

@suzycup100 Hi Scott, I can't recommend what I did. I binned the factory fuel delivery system and switched to a PWM-controlled dead-end system where the fuel pressure is under software control by the ECU. I also replaced the factory fuel filter with a new billet filter housing and a 1-micron paper filter.

Well... I would recommend it, but it's not cheap, lol.

Erik, the filter is mounted under the left side sidepod near the opening where the fuel lines come out from the fuel bladder / tank. My car is an SR8, so I doubt it will apply to your SR3. Here's the filter:

81831 In-Line Fuelab Filters | FUELAB.

HI @ezabala8, Since you have a Gen 1 SR3 it could either be in the side pod or in the engine bay.  is your car fuel injected or carbureted?  I would recommend following the fuel line from the engine and work your way toward the fuel tank.  If you can't find it in the engine bay, then check in the side pod.  Here are a few images that could help.  The early cars went through several fuel tank designs so your may be similar to these but could be different.  Does your car have an aluminum fuel tank or a fuel cell?  if your car is fuel injected you might find an aluminum unit mounted in the fuel line in the engine bay that is a combination fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter housing.
