SR3 1300cc no spark
Hey guys !
Did some reasearch on the forum but didn't found anything so here I am:
I did a motor swap on my SR3 Clubsport 1300cc for a bike engine, still 1300cc Hayabusa - but 2007 instead of 2003.
As of now, I have no spark at the plug. I've tested the coilpack connector and I get no pulse on pin 2 & 3 (pin1 is constant 12v and I assume pin4 is he ground).
I've tested the crank position sensor and I have 233 ohm of resistance and I get 0.3v on VA when I cank it. Since the spec is 0.3v and more, I wonder is the MBE can give up firing the sparkplug, if the voltage is at 0.3v flat ?
The battery is full and the motor crank very well (I've removed the spark plug to ease it).
Any idea what to test next ? Or should I simply try replacing the CKP first ?
Thx for your help !

Hi Marco (@fuel4speed), I suspect the issue is that the number of teeth are different on the reluctor wheel (I think that is the name). If the number of teeth you are using on the new engine is different from the old engine it will be triggering the spark at the wrong time.
Yeah, after talking with my mechanic and Robert from Radical Canada, the wrong basket was choosen as we had both 99-00 and 01-07 on the bench, during the rebuild ! Waiting for the stator cover gasket to retry everything. TBC next week, but on the right path I'm sure !
All right, here’s the conclusion.
After installing the correct flywheel, I still had no spark. That said, I remembered having a similar issue last summer; sometimes it would start fine, other times there was no spark at all.
It turns out the problem was the ignition relay (#49 on the wiring diagram), which was intermittently failing. The contact wasn’t consistent - I was seeing 12V at times, 5V at others, and sometimes nothing at all.
When I checked the relay, I found corrosion on one of the pins. It had been sitting loose behind the passenger seat.
I replaced the relay, and boom! It fired up instantly.
Case solved 🙂 And I know the wiring diagram much better ! LOL
Great to hear you fixed it. Putting this here for others in case they also have a no spark issue. I had a similar problem a few weeks ago on a 2022 SR3XX. The issue was that the crankshaft sensor wiring has a connector near the air solonoid, bottom left of the engine bay near radiator. That connector was loose but hard to see it was not pressed in. This loose connection meant the crank sensor was not firing. It was further validated the crank sensor was a problem when the RPM was showing 0 but the starter was on.
Re-seating the connector fixed the issue and the engine would fire.
