Trying to connect to my Aim system for the ......10th time or so and it's just not happening.  I can see on my laptop and it registers that the cable/system plugged in.  It doesn't load the driver correctly so it basically tells me there's something connected but it malfunctioned and no driver loaded support for it.  Race Studio doesn't show any new devices.

This same laptop connected to my Aim system in my last car fine but that was a newer MXS system.  I tried a different laptop with another new load of race studio 3 and it does the same thing.  The cable is brand new from Pegasus Racing.  Car is 2014 SR3.

I've also tried different combinations of powering both the aim system up and plugging it into the car.  Tried to load the driver again by going to c:\aim....... and running the install as per a doc I found on Aim's website.  Seems like it's always a struggle with Aim systems.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using Race Studio 2 or Race Studio 3?  The MXS uses Race Studio 3, but the Pista dash in your 2014 requires Race Studio 2.  If you are using RS3, that is likely your problem.  If you are already using RS 2 you will benefit from talking to a real Aim expert like Matt (@trailbrake).

Charley is on the ball. If it's an MXL Pista, you need to use Race Studio 2 to download data and configure the dash. It's available at https://aim-sportline.com/en/sw-fw-download.htm

Many times the problems with connection come down to an antivirus problem. If you are using the correct software, make sure you have firewalls and antivirus off.

Thanks for the info everyone.  I was using Race Studio 3 so I'll give 2 a try.  No antivirus software on either laptop.  Seems like a usb driver issue but hopefully Race Studio 2 will pick it up.

Will send Matt an email if it's still an issue.

Ok if anyone's interested here's the update.  It may save someone else some head scratching.

After purchasing $140 worth of cables and talking to a couple different AIM experts the port that is usually used to make the connection (looks like 3.5mm stereo plug port) to the Pista often goes bad.  This seems to be the case with mine as it no longer allows a connection to be made.  There is however a second port that is integrated to our dash.  I also appear to have an issue with this one.

On the bright side it looks like Santa may be dropping a new color dash off under the tree.  🙂   Probably going to install an MXS soon.  Really tempted to do the new camera with it but the price tag is really high for a low def camera.  They're only 720P which looks good until you put it up on a large HD tv.  The integration is so good with the system I still might go this route.  Just spoiled after using a couple of high def match book sized cameras that do 1080 @ 60fps only costing $85 a piece.  Used to have front and rear views  but integrating them with the AIM data took a long time.

I swapped out my old Stack dash for a new MXS Strada, and then I snagged a Strada Logger (Matt at TrailBrake got me sorted). It's a beautiful dash and I really like RS3's capabilities over RS2. You'll love the WiFi connections too. No more cables! 🙂

@trakmnky,  Sorry to hear about your dash. I have never hear of both plugs going bad. You have a couple of options though.  The cheapest option is that you can send your dash to Aim in California and they can replace the plug.  Another option is I know of someone selling a used MXL2 dash for $1500 and he is selling a Smartycam HDGP with a 120 degree camera for $900.  They can also be purchased separately if you are interested.  I have been waiting to get some good pictures of them before I posted them but here are the shots I currently have.  Hopefully I will get some better shots soon.  You also might want to check with Matt @trailbrake because he has great prices and sometimes he has used items available also.

Thanks for the replies.  Charley that might be an option.  Has anyone seen the new MXP in a Radical yet?  Just curious how it fits.  It's supposed to be about the same size as the mxs but more screen?  MXS looks like it might fit better.

Here is a picture of an MXS in the new Radical Rapture which is similar in size to an SR3, but I have never seen anyone put an MXS or MXP in an SR3.  There must be a reason because for many new Radical buyers cost isn’t much of an issue, so if they were better for this application I would think you would see people with them.

Sorry to hear about you having all the problems. Something doesn't sound right if you are having trouble with the side input and the USB cable in the harness. But, as Charley said, you can send the dash into Roanoke or Lake Elsinore and they will repair it for the cost of the parts and return shipping. It's a deal you can't beat!

For new dashes, here's a 1:1 template for the MXS https://aim-sportline.com/download/doc/eng/mxs1.2-mxp-mxg1.2/MXS1.2_installation_template.pdf and the MXP https://aim-sportline.com/download/doc/eng/mxs1.2-mxp-mxg1.2/MXP_installation_template.pdf

I really like the MXP display size and options if it fits. I do sell lots of MXS units too though, so it's really user preference. On the camera front, the SCHD video really does look good. Many times it's used in TV broadcast and you're really paying for the  ease of use and power of integration. I've never had anyone now happy with the camera after they bought it.

Here's the MXS in #87 SR8. The alarm that's on is for low fuel, which I programmed with help from Matt at Trailbrake. Many thanks!

Looks great John!

I do like the MXS dash and don't understand why Radical don't fit it to the SR3. It provides so much information and allows for full screen pop up messages.

We fitted one to a Caterham last year and it didn't look out of place in that.

The pics look great!  Really appreciate the information.

After seeing #87 with the MXS I just need to decide between it and the MXP.  May call an AIM dealer tomorrow as the difference isn't really apparent to me other than the shape and the website says the MXP has 50% more screen?  From the picture the MXS fits really well, I would think the MXP would too.

I do really like the integration of the camera with the system so may end up picking it up too.

I'm an AiM dealer, so feel free to call me anytime. My cell is 603-674-3250. I'm on EST.

The hardware and capabilities are the same in the MXS 1.2 and the MXP. The only display is 6 alarm lights on the MXS versus 5 on the MXP and the size of the unit/display. For me, the MXP is the sweet spot in size of the unit and the display size (and I was a diehard MXL2 guy!).  Looking at the photos, the MXP would fit great. If you're not sure, I always work with my customers. If you got the MXP and it didn't fit, I'd swap it out for an MXS for you (they are the same price).

Also, the SmartyCam HD is completely worth it! The ability to have the data on the video done automatically is worth every penny. No one ever questions getting the camera once they use it.
