Hello All New member here looking to get into a Radical. I'm a track day guy I don't race I've got a couple of Formula cars now and looking to get into a radical. Considering a 2019 spec RXC spyder or a 2021 SR10. Does anyone have an opinion as to a comparison of the 2 cars for track day use.

Thanks

Brian,

Since no one has commented, I thought I'd try and help you out a little.  Charley may offer some advice too but RXC Spyder's and SR10's are pretty rare cars.  Very few people have driven both so the chances of someone offering advice here are slim.

I think your best bet would be to call Team Stradale or Spring Mountain.  They are both large Radical shops and are probably your best bet.  I'm more familiar with Team Stradale in Joliet IL.  If memory serves, I think I remember seeing at least one Spyder in their stable and I know they have taken delivery of quite a few SR10's already.

Love my SR3, have driven the SR10 which was was great too.  I've been racing and doing track events since 2005, and have owned a lot of race cars over the years.  The Radical has been the most fun and by far the best engineered car I've owned.  You won't be disappointed no matter which model you choose.

Brian:

I have driven SR8 and SR10, but not the RXC.  In general I understand RXC is slower in corners but fast on the straight if the straight is long enough.  I love the high rev engine of the SR8!  There is great joy with 10,500 rpm and 400 hp.  However, the SR10 is much faster with additional 25 hp and virtually no turbo lag.  Considering the lower cost of operation, the SR10 is a better choice in my opinion.

A friend of mine, Mike Fitzpatrick is selling his RXC spyder, he may have some insight on how the RXc drives

Thank you for the thoughtful replies. I've decided to go with the SR10. Although I do love the look of the RXC I think the 10 will be a better track day car based on your replies and some conversation with owners and dealers.

@bld how did the decision play out?  I find myself in the same position.   The looks, size, and extra tech of the RXC Spyder vs the more common SR10 platform yielding lower operational costs and parts availability.  Many dealers haven’t even worked on a RXC…

Hi @danamg, welcome to the Registry!  I see from your recent posts that you are trying to decide between the RXC Spyder and and SR10 and are wondering why all of the dealers are pushing you toward the SR10.  The simple answer is to get the car that you like the most.  There are reasons that people recommend the SR10 over the RXC, but it is really an individual decision based on how you plan to use the car. I work with a lot of people to help them get into the Radical that fits their needs the best.  I am not a sales man, I do it to help the Radical community.  Feel free to email me at CharleyH@RadicalSportscarRegistry.com if you would like some individualized help. The key questions that will help you get to the best car to meet your needs are the following (you don't need to post the answers publicly if you don't want to). 1) Do you plan to do track days or are you planning to race in a series? 2) Where do you live? (so we can find options near you). 3) What is your "Target" purchase budget. 4) What is your "target" operating budge (roughly).  5) How fast do you want to be?  I love thee old adage, Speed cost money, you need to know how fast you can afford (or want to afford) to be. 6) How much driving experience do you have?

With those questions answered I can help make some recommendations for you.

With that said, here are a few high level thoughts.  First, there are a lot of reasons why the SR3 is the best selling Radical.  It is relatively easy to drive fast, it provides a high level of performance for the money, and you can operate the car yourself.

Technically you can operate an SR10 or RXC by your self but there is a lot more that needs to be done to get the car ready to go on track...Such as jacking up the car and running the car in gear to warm up the transmission before going on the track.

The RXC and SR10 will be more expensive to operate that an SR3.  The RXC will cost more to operate than the SR10.

There are also reasons why the SR10 has been the fastest selling Radical model.  Once again it provides more performance than an SR3 or RXC Spyder at a reasonable cost.  There are a lot of SR10's out there so you have people to compete with (if that is your goal).

The RXC is a very nice car but it is a big car and it has operating cost than the SR3 or SR10.  Also, as you have been told, there are not that many in the U.S. (I am assuming that is where you are located?) and dealers don't stock many parts for them because there are so few cars.  If you decide to get an RXC make sure to get one that has been converted to the Hewland transmission, or budget that ~$30k cost for the conversion.

With all of that said do your research and get the car that you like the best.  There isn't one correct answer that fits everyone, but there is a correct answer on which car will fit your needs the best.  🙂

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com Charly is correct in what he says the rxc is a gentelmans  racer the sr 10 in my oppinion is a sr3 on steroids so will out brake and carry just a bit more speed in the corners but the rxc will leave it for dead on the straight its probably at is limits for the size of the vehicle the sr10 appears to be a bit twitcy if driven at full power as they don,t weigh alot i have done over 100 track days in the rxc with no quaife  ie gbox issues and its 650 hp  both cars will destroy most cars on track i don,t race only track day if you want to race go for the sr10 as there will be more events to race in if you want to be king of the track on track days its the rxc i would not buy a rxc with the V8 though there are a few rxc with 800 hp and the hewland g box  i think you need to be at full racing driver level though for that amount of power. Good luck with it test drive a few thats the only way forward.
