Gas consumption is dependent on speed. The big kids here are running 1:20-1:22/lap and use 1 Litre/minute. At 1:26-1:27 I'm using 0.8 L/m and was getting 0.66 L/m at ~1:30+/lap. In practical terms, I get one 25 minute session out of a 20L/5 Gal can of gas. Used to get 30 minutes out of a can when I was slower.

Learned the hard way that you need an extra 10 L in the tank for slosh and to keep track of time.

With the price a racegas that would not be cheap!  I'd be burning 10G in 40mins at  $10/gal for 100octane.  I am surprised these little 1500cc motors are so thirsty.

You guys must be a lot faster than me.... I have been using ~ 1 gallon every 10 minutes.

I need to hurry up, I can go two 25 min sessions on E85 with a 1440.  Price and availability of race gas prompted me to convert to E85.

One of the things I've been doing with the MoTeC redo of my SR8 is laying the groundwork to use E85 or methanol down the road.

Regarding octane, the SR3 manual says 98 octane minimum, but I believe the Europeans use RON and in the US we use PON, so 98 RON = 93 PON which means if I lived in a state that offered 93 (I don't) then I could just use pump gas.  Is this correct?

My track has onsite fuel, but I can only choose from 91 and 100.  If I only need 93, I will have them mix and save myself the extra cost.

If you have a 1500 you definitely should use the 100.

@jaygolding, Congratulations on picking up 800, It looks like a fantastic car!  Where will the car be located now?

Regarding your question, I don't think using 110 will give you any benefit over 100 race fuel.  I would switch to 100 race fuel.

I am looking forward to hearing about your progress with the car!

Charley

@charleyhradicalsportscarregistry-com

I planned on properly introducing myself once I get time off next week.

I live outside of Greensboro NC and I am a VIR club member.

I race BMW CCA in a BM E92 M3—I am a LOtus junkie and have a 211 for track days...I raced the first year in the Ariel Atom series —-so a Radical has always been in my future!!!

Ian gave me 50+m gallons of 110 so that was why I asked

@jaygolding,  You are going to really enjoy the Radical.

I found a little more information on Octane.  You should be fine using the 110 that Ian gave you but I would switch to 100 after you use it up.  It is my understanding that 110 is leaded fuel and 100 is unleaded fuel.  This shouldn't be much of an issue since Radicals don't use O2 sensors or cats.  Here is what VP says about using higher octane than needed.
