Flying lap from yesterday at NJMP on lightning. Not part of a race event so with it unofficially broke the all time NASA track record and SCCA P2 track record

Verified this morning, this lap is 3.2 seconds faster than the SCCA P2 track record here. The record is obviously unofficially broken since this lap was not done during an SCCA event. Still tremendous testament to the great value and performance these cars have!

@grouparacing

absolutely fantastic. Track looks fun!

this video also confirms that something is very wrong with the handling of my radical and i need to get alignments/setup all checked, because my car is snap oversteering even in a steady-state mid corner when there's no weight transfer going on longtidunally. I'm convinced it's not right, as a result i could not hook the car up mid corner at all as i was constantly fighting oversteer.

everyone do feel free to comment/remark if i'm totally wrong here, but i would think as you get on throttle the weight shifts rear, provided you're not stamping on the throttle to generate power-oversteer, then the car balance should at the very most be neutral, if not, tending to understeer, as you've moved weight from front to back.

Whereas my car balance is oversteering no matter where the weight is! Maybe the team have put too much rake in it and i need to reduce rear ride height. I'm going to reset the whole car back to radical baseline and start over myself.

Fast and smooth.  Nice driving Jonathan.  You should try racing ... you might be OK at it. 😜

@rojid ... looks horrid - you are right!  Room for improvement there by a long way!  I agree - go back to a known baseline including corner weights, rake, ride heights, etc

I'm not convinced by your video.

In that video's first turn, you are downshifting and turning. The downshift transfers weight forward as the engine brakes, which causes your car to oversteer.

I'd recommend getting your downshifting done under braking in a straight line, or doing it less aggressively/later so it doesn't engine brake as abruptly (lower rpms cause less engine braking)

well, my last outing for the year at the wonderful Bedford autodrome. This place is where i drove a race car for the very first time, using their 'palmersport' fleet of cars, waay back in 2007, so it's always had a special place in my heart. They run a number of different layouts, for this particular sprint event they used the 'West' circuit which is a short but really fun course. The whole place has a great selection of corners and is perfect for dialing in setup as there's absolutely nothing to hit. It's flat but the kerbs and bumps still give the circuit some interesting features...I love the place!

The car handling compared to last time was completely transformed. Taking off those front dive planes made a humongous difference; the only other things we did was set front toe back to +4mm overall (i think it was slightly out), my rear toe and cambers were very slightly out, so i'm putting it down to the dive planes. We didn't do anything else with ride height. The car was completely stable and balanced, actually now tending slightly towards understeer on entry everywhere and i could push the car with confidence into every braking zone with no issues, which was impossible at Silverstone. I can now slowly tweak things to get back to a neutral balance and more rotation on turn-in.

no wonder no one runs those dive planes in the championship! i guess they'd be useful for wet weather running but nothing more.

and thats it. Next year i have to take a year out from all of it. rebuild the engine and GDU, get an enclosed trailer and an appropriate cheap tow vehicle as i can't keep on using my 4 series coupe (ridiculous!). A huge amount of £££ to invest. I'll be back in 2025! I'm sure i can be patient for 1 year............... 😬

@rojid Did you remove both dive planes? Or just one? I'm curious as I've removed one (*David F's advice) and it made a big difference, and now tends to understeer under throttle. It's a nice balance and now I can control under/oversteer with my feet. For fun, here's a couple of 2:08s at Sebring:

@parsonsj

i only had 1 pair on in the first place, the lower larger ones, so i'm now running none. I'm still need to dial in the balance, but at least it's not ridiculous like it was at silverstone.
