Want SR3 Seat Padding
Hi all, I just purchased a radical sr3 chassis number 165 today and I am super excited to get it on the track. The previous owner removed both seat cushions / padding. I'm wondering if anybody has a set or even just one they are willing to sell. Please let me know if you have one or two available. Thank you! Chris, 408-717-3319
Congratulations on the new car Chris! I know you are going to enjoy it. I will keep a look out for some pads for you. I have driven the car with and without pads and it is surprising how little difference it makes.
I am looking forward to hearing about your car.
Charley
Hi Charley! Thanks for your reply. I am only 5'6" and can use all the padding I can get. I will likely need a custom seat made but in the mean time if I can find a set of pads that would be awesome! The staff at Spring Mountain have bent over backwards to help me reach the pedals by doubling up on loaner pads, sliding the seat all the way forward and making an extension pad for the throttle. I have my first track day/instruction in the Radical tomorrow!
Yes, it sounds like you are going to want to get a bead or foam seat Insert made. There are some posts on here about them.
Are you running your car at Spring Mountain? Have fun!
Spring Mountain is a beautiful venue/track however it is 8 hours from home. I plan to run at Sonoma, Laguna Seca and Crows Landing as those are at most 2 hours away.
Great tracks!
Dear Chris
Congrats on the car. We are the same height and I highly recommend a seat insert. I purchased my car at Radical Northwest and they happen to have a seat insert already poured that fit me. With a good seat insert you may not need to use pedal extensions. I can see much better and I don't shift in the seat now. Prior to the seat insert I just purchased foam and cut it to the seat dimensions to experiment. You could contact Radical Northwest if you need help with making the insert. They are located at Sonoma Raceway, ask for Kyle or Anthony. Welcome!!!
Thanks John! I’ll give them a call for more info.
For what it's worth, a lot of us older racers have spare race seats sitting around. The pads out of sparco etc. seats are fire retardant (somewhat) so should have less issues going through tech. If you have a passenger or two that need a quick custom solution you can take some of the pads out of the old seats and stack them.
My wife is only 4'11" and this solution works perfect for her while we find time to put together a bead seat. Going to keep them around for those times when others want a quick ride and don't quite fit.
That is a really good idea. One time I took a family friend for a ride in my car and when she sat down I realized we had a bit of a problem because of her height... or lack of height. 😀 She had the time of her life, but I'm not sure how much she actually saw of the track. 🙄
Love those photos! I'm guessing she didn't have much of a problem with helmet lift. 🙂
By the way... that wasn’t a child, it was a 60 year old woman 🤣
