Wow you guys are making it so advanced.. all you need is a brian james trailer, with tilt, and 1,5m long piece of wood just to make a small ramp. And thats it

@lunatic ... what's your splitter height (lowest point at the front) - are you running fairly high in comparison?"

Brian james RT4 trailer, i tilt it and use 4x wood about 1m long each.. 2x4" and half that again so i step it up from ground. No need for advanced ramps. But BJ have their own ramps, but thet

y are reeeeeeally expencive

alright folks, thought i'd update this thread, as today was the day i loaded the car onto the trailer for the very first time.

For those of us in the UK - its a Woodford WBT101 which has tilt and electric winch, 1.8m pull-out ramps, and little flip-down legs at the back to provide additional support when loading. Luckily it appears to be a good fit, with enough clearance either side to attach the ratchet hooks and run down the side of the car. THe electric winch also proved to be well worth the money. Total cost of the trailer was £4339.

In the end the ramps i needed were simple. As i pulled the car onto the trailer i simply measured the distance from trailer ramp ends to the wheel, at the point the front splitter touched the ground. I only needed 3 'steps' to avoid any kind of scrape - 175cm, 110cm, and 65cm, all placed underneath the trailer ramps.

The wood itself was from BnQ, they stocked plenty of CLS treated timber, dimensions 38x140x2400mm (so i could easily fit it in car). You only need 3 of them, at £19 each.

As a finishing touch i'll chamfer the ends just to put that little less strain on the winch, and screw the pieces together.

The ratchet straps i bought from uktratchetstraps.com - 6x 5000kg claw hook straps, some additional claw hooks and a strap hand rewinder tool...looked like it might save some time. £94 all in.

One mistake i did make was as i was winching and the car got close to the winch itself, the angle got rather acute, pulling down on the toe ring causing it to bend a little..  i hope i haven't destroyed the integrity of it or damaged it or the chassis itself in any way?
