I would recommend checking the clutch first, ensure that the pushrod moves when you depress the clutch. Maybe try bleeding it through and checking that the pedal stop is set correctly.

As Charley said don't trust the dash even if you can find hours on it. Connect to the ECU and check the logbook. 1340's should easily run well over 40 hours but make sure you keep on top of the drive ...
