My SR8 water pump has a switch on the dash. Oddly enough, the wire that feeds the switch is labeled as "Fuel Pump" 🙂

@graemed, I can’t tell from your picture, but do you have the upgraded engine mount?  If you don’t, This is a great time to add it.  The new mount reduces case cracking. You can see it in this picture (it is the black piece on the upper right).

I’ve thought about that. Curious what the cost is. Looks like it would take 2 new bolts and cut off a section of the engine mount cradle.

@graemed, When I had this done a few years ago the part was about $285 from Spring Mountain.  Here is the bulletin that discusses it. Somewhere I have seen instructions for cutting the lug off of the engine mount, but I can't find it at the moment.  It is a very straightforward job and well worth doing.

the cam arraignment actually increases clamping force as more torque is applied. The 3 little clips Radical adds disable this feature. (A common practice that Hayabusa drag racers do. )

Do you have a picture of the other side of the head?

From what I can see I think you are still running with the titanium valves. Personally I would recommend upgrading to Gen 1 steel valves and springs to suit.

All SR3's, 8's and I think all Gen 2 SR1 engines run them.

They sure feel like titanium.

What are your thoughts on aftermarket valves like those from Ferrea?

Maybe run the original springs with ti spring retainers and keepers? Have to weigh each set of components to compare the total weights

Could be why the cam sprockets are not welded, due to the lighter spring pressure.

Just thinking out loud.

@graemed

Yeah, they are titanium.

I have no experience with Ferrea so cannot comment on them, I have however seen some other aftermarket brands that don't seem to cope in a Radical. I would recommend Kibblewhite ones though. Springs will need to be updated with steel valves, either OEM Gen 1 or something like APE 47lb items. Keepers and retainers can use the standard (same as Gen 1).

With all this effort is it worth fitting larger throttle bodies and upping the rev limit for more performance!?

It’s going back together,

new main & rod bearings

New transmission clips seals

note the difference between the RPE shift drum stop & the Suzuki OEM part.

@graemed

Did you have to turn the crank or were the journals smooth?

@crit

I did not, they are smooth, not perfect, but good enough for another 50 hours.

The clearance is .0018”, slightly larger than oem, but well under the .0031 limit.

Today’s progress, crank and transmission installed in cases, cases assembled and torqued.
I am still waiting on valves, so I will get as far as possible before running out parts,

I'm digging the photos. Don't you just love assembling completely clean parts?

@parsonsj

I agree, I even had to run to the drug store to get more Q-tips to clean the bolt holes.
